Sightseeing

Many workshop participants will arrive already on Saturday, June 8th. Since Bled is fairly small we would suggest an excursion on Sunday, June 9th. The alternatives are:

Both trips would take from 9AM to 6PM. It includes all entry tickets but no meals. The first option is nicer, the second is the backup in the case of bad weather.

For the accompanying persons the following excursions can be arranged during the Workshop:

Things you could do on your own or by bus:

Since there has not been much interest in an organized Sunday excursion two final suggestions:

  1. For organized excursions, visit the ATS (Alpine Tourist Center office) in Bled (see map, phone +(386-64) 741 456) and let them suggest you one of their trips.
  2. On your own I'd suggest you take a public bus to Bohinj-Zlatorog, take a cable car to Vogel (the adventurous might wich to walk up and down), and/or walk to the Savica waterfall (lighter climb, nice and cool in hot weather)...

There are many places you can exchange your currency. The rates should not get worse for less frequent currencies (like FIM or SEK).

Credit Cards

Mastercard/Eurocard, Visa and American Express cards are accepted in Slovenia, Mastercard being the most popular, Amex the least. They are accepted in hotels, better restaurants and shops. They are not accepted in taxis, petrol stations and basic grocery stores.

Book your flights

Try Internet Travel Network to check flight schedules or to book your flight. Remeber, your destination airport is Ljubljana (code LJU).

Arrival via Ljubljana Airport

The Ljubljana International Airport "Brnik" (code LJU) is about 35km east of Bled. It's small but friendly - it even has a small duty free shop on arrival! Taxi fare to Bled is about 4-5000 SIT (no fixed price, you pay what the meter says). Since there are not all that many flights coming to Ljubljana, it is quite possible you will be able to share a cab with another participant.

You can also take an airport bus to Ljubljana central bus and railway station. Airport busses run after every international flight, cost 450SIT, the ride takes about 30 minutes. From Ljubljana you can take either a train or a bus (better) to Bled.

Busses from Ljubljana to Bled run every hour on the hour from terminal 7 or 8. The fare is 600 SIT. On weekdays afternoon they also run on half hour. The ride takes about 45 minutes.

Actually Bled has two railway stations - the Bled-Jezero on the Jesenice-Gorica railway and the Lesce-Bled one on the Ljubljana-Jesenice-Villach railway. This is the one you should get off at. It is quite a few miles away from the town - take a cab to the hotel.

An option is also to take a bus or taxi to Bled from the Ljubljana railway station. The Ljubljana Bus station is right next to the Ljubljana railway station. If taking a cab try to negotiate a fixed price. Something around SIT 6-7000 ($50) should get you to Bled.
